Chapter 168 Anniversary clock meeting Sydney June 2003 had the usual business session, workshop hints, mystery clocks and mart.  The main topic was Kienzle, Badische and Huber clocks with members bringing along examples for discussion. Click on the thumbnails for a larger picture and close it "X" to bring you back.
The 400 day clock repair contest is bringing up many questions on how do I do this?  Doug Minty advises on eccentrics Doug explains the use of a "Preacher" if tou have to replace the eccentric completely and how to repair a tooth tip
What's this little washer behind the canon pinion for?  One of a number of methods of tensioning hands on clocks a special tool for gripping hands to alter the hole size or file them
Replacement hand collets come in assortments, often not exactly what you need so it is often easier to make them yourself This was the mystery clock.  Lionel recon's it's French
Why? Because of the quality of the movement Also the round movement (the French always think outside the square he claims)
Horolovar Guide Plate 1631 is listed as JUF.  Mystery.  Get out the Grivolais catalogue and have a look The pendulum certainly has a Grivolais feel to it in miniature
The weight adjustments seem similar Lovely ornate dial
We concluded that the pendulum could be Grivolais manufacture but the rest of the clock remains a mystery An unusual bandstand or Louvre recently turned up with plastic base
The base  requires a large diameter squat dome The base looks original with fading of the colour over the years
You could call it medium size from the height of it It has the classic finial at the top but squat
Well how old is it.  Lindsay looks up Kochman to determine  when the double elephants trade mark was registered - early 20's Backplate showing the double elephants to the bottom right of the suspension tube
