As usual this workshop was very well attended attracting 38 participants.  Presentation was in the capable hands of Doug Minty with Michael Smith, Roger Little and Noel Lipscombe providing advice and support as the day progressed.

A special feature was the wide variety of movements available for dismantling and study. This enabled participants to move round and see at first hand how the end result (a striking and chiming clock) could be achieved using many different mechanical variations to do so. This knowledge is particularly valuable when carrying out service or repairs. Again, and as usual, catering was first class and tailored to the very warm conditions. Thanks go to Joan Minty, Joan Ekins and Wendy Bate on behalf of all present.

The pictures below show intense activity during the day 0800-1430.  The theory covered the design of chime mechanisms, chime release, locking and self correcting devices.  Various types of chiming pin barrells were described and the operation of the hammers and chime rods. Many practical hints were learned and as everybody had a clock they had hands on practice of dismantling, inspecting and rebuilding the mechanisms.  Lots of fun.
