February 2008, Chapter 72 Meeting

Alison Fry and her husband Kent received an appreciation certificate from Chapter 122, Melbourne for their video production of the National Maritime Museum Regional meeting - a well deserved accolade.

Martin Foster gave a very informative and entertaining presentation on Modern Watch Movements, Swiss and Chinese. He has been on fact finding visits to Chinese factories to be able to give accurate reports in his articles to various horological publications. Many watches, although they had astronomical prices, smashed down to only 10c worth of materials!" Martin sees art in these watches and quotes "Art defines Civilisation and Culture - and is what distinguishes Man from Animal"

It's amazing how complicated and expensive watches can get. Some of them can be considered works of art. There are obviously many very wealthy clients for these

An example of Chinese production. Sometimes they don't have the artistic flair of many European designers
