June 2006 Chapter 72 meeting

We were fortunate to have a visit from Chris Schouten from Holland give us a talk on the work he does in his clock restoration business.  Some conversions of early verge bracket and Religieuse clocks to anchor escapements have been reversed.  Many are not done in line with the original clock.  In fact kits could be bought to do any clock- English, Dutch, French - one size fits all.  Chris does a more sympathetic reconversion in line with the clocks original design.  This is faithfully accomplished from studying original clocks and photographs down to such details as the thread design.  A very detailed and learned talk.

George Percival brought in a double three-legged gravity escapement tower clock.  The Big Ben Clock uses this method.  (4 members and guests attended the meeting which was followed by afternoon tea.
