The topic of the meeting in August was electric clocks. A selection of those on display are shown. They included master clocks, mains driven and battery operated clocks.

Essentially (excluding electronic clocks) there are three main types -

Those where the power is used to wind up a spring or raise a weight, essentially a mechanical clock with electric wind

Those where the pendulum is driven by the electrical force and geared to turn the hands

Those operating directly from mains electricity using a synchronous motor to step down from 50 cycles per second in Australia or 60 cycles in the USA
